2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage: All 72 Games, Kickoff Times & Matchup Analysis

72 matches. 12 groups. 48 nations. Three host countries. The 2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage is the largest and most ambitious in tournament history, running June 11 through June 27 across 16 stadiums in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This is your complete reference — every game, exact kickoff time in Eastern Time, venue, and what to watch for in each group.

👉 Follow live scores and standings at SportBusy's World Cup 2026 hub — real-time results as every match kicks off.

How the Group Stage Works

48 teams are divided into 12 groups of four. Each team plays three matches — one against each group opponent. Points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss. The top 2 teams from each group advance automatically to the Round of 32. The 8 best third-place finishers across all 12 groups also advance, bringing the knockout total to 32 teams. That means 32 of 48 nations reach the Round of 32 — a 67% advancement rate, the most inclusive group stage in World Cup history.

Tiebreakers (in order): goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head record, disciplinary points. The final matchday in each group kicks off simultaneously — all 24 third-round games start at the same time within their group, preventing any team from knowing what result they need before their match begins.

Group A — South Africa, Mexico, Czech Republic, South Korea

The story: Mexico open the entire tournament on home soil at the iconic Estadio Azteca — the only stadium to host two World Cup finals (1970, 1986) and the site of Diego Maradona's Hand of God. El Tri are the favorites to top the group, buoyed by passionate home support and the psychological weight of hosting. South Korea, with their disciplined defensive structure and Premier League-caliber talent, are the group's most dangerous second team. Czech Republic bring European quality and tournament experience. South Africa are the underdogs but motivated to perform on the continent's biggest stage.

Group B — Bosnia-Herzegovina, Canada, Switzerland, Qatar

The story: Canada are playing their first World Cup as qualifiers since 1986 and have home matches at BMO Field (Toronto) and BC Place (Vancouver), creating one of the tournament's most electric home-crowd atmospheres. Switzerland are the group's best European team — consistent, hard to beat, always dangerous at major tournaments. Bosnia-Herzegovina are the dark horses, bringing physical and technical quality from their top European league experience. Qatar, the 2022 hosts, are the group's underdogs but will compete hard.

Group C — Morocco, Brazil, Scotland, Haiti

The story: Brazil enter 2026 as one of the tournament's true favorites, opening at MetLife Stadium — the World Cup Final venue — against Morocco. That's no easy opener: Morocco reached the 2022 semifinals by defeating Belgium, Spain, and Portugal, and their organized, physical, counter-attacking style gives even Brazil problems. Scotland's qualification was a historic achievement; they'll be underdogs in every match but organized and motivated. Haiti make their first-ever World Cup appearance — one of football's great inspiration stories.

Watch for: Morocco vs. Brazil (June 13) at MetLife is one of the opening week's marquee matchups. A Morocco win or draw against Brazil would be seismic. The Brazil vs. Scotland game (June 24) in Miami could see Brazil rotate with the group already decided — or play desperate if Morocco took points early.

Group D — Paraguay, USA, Turkey, Australia

The story: The United States Men's National Team play their opening match at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles before 77,000 fans — the largest home crowd any American soccer team has ever performed in front of at a World Cup. The USMNT have Christian Pulisic, Ricardo Pepi, Tyler Adams, and a generation of players who grew up watching the 2014 run and the 2022 heartbreak. Playing at home changes everything for a team that's always played its best football in front of its own country. Turkey, with their Süper Lig core and European club experience, are the group's most dangerous opponent. Australia's Socceroos always punch above their weight in tournament football.

Group E — Curaçao, Germany, Ecuador, Ivory Coast

The story: Germany enter 2026 with a point to prove after consecutive group-stage eliminations in 2018 and 2022 — the two most humiliating World Cups in their history. Their rebuilt squad has genuine quality from back to front and they should top this group comfortably. But Ecuador and Ivory Coast are both capable sides: Ecuador showed in 2022 they can compete at the highest level, and Ivory Coast (AFCON champions) have dangerous attacking talent. Curaçao — a Caribbean island nation of 150,000 — compete in their first-ever World Cup, having qualified through CONCACAF in a remarkable achievement.

Watch for: Germany vs. Ecuador (June 25) at MetLife Stadium is a potential de facto elimination game if either team has stumbled earlier. Ivory Coast vs. Germany (June 20) in Toronto is the group's sneaky upset candidate — Les Éléphants know how to beat European heavyweights.

Group F — Japan, Netherlands, Tunisia, Sweden

The story: Japan have quietly become one of the world's most tactically sophisticated national teams — their 2022 group stage wins over Germany and Spain shocked the world. They'll test Netherlands in what shapes up as the group's defining opening fixture. Netherlands, loaded with Champions League quality across every line, are the clear group favorites but won't have it easy against a Japan side that defends deep and strikes on the counter with devastating precision. Sweden bring Bundesliga and Premier League quality; Tunisia will battle for third-place points.

Group G — Egypt, Belgium, New Zealand, Iran

The story: Belgium's so-called Golden Generation — one of international football's most discussed underachievers — may be making one of their final collective bids for major tournament glory. Talentwise they have no excuse; results-wise they've fallen short repeatedly at the biggest moments. Egypt, built around Mo Salah and a core of Premier League-proven players, are legitimate second-place contenders and could trouble Belgium in the opener. Iran have a well-organized side with experience from their 2022 World Cup campaign. New Zealand's qualification represents OFC football at its most competitive.

Group H — Cape Verde, Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia

The story: Spain enter as reigning European champions and one of the tournament's genuine contenders for the trophy. Uruguay are one of South America's most combative and technically gifted sides — capable of beating any team on any given day — and their clash with Spain (June 27 in Guadalajara) has quarterfinal-level quality happening in the group stage. Saudi Arabia famously defeated Argentina in 2022 in one of the biggest World Cup upsets ever; they'll try to recreate that magic. Cape Verde — competing in just their second-ever World Cup — are the group's feel-good story.

Sat, Jun 27Saudi Arabia vs. Cape Verde8:00 PMNRG Stadium, Houston

Watch for: Spain vs. Uruguay (June 27) in Guadalajara is potentially the best match of the entire group stage — two world-class sides meeting in a high-stakes finale. Saudi Arabia vs. Spain (June 21) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium brings back memories of the 2022 Argentina upset. Don't rule it out.

Group I — Senegal, France, Norway, Iraq

The story: France — the 2018 World Cup champions — open at MetLife Stadium against Senegal in what may be the most politically and emotionally charged group-stage fixture in this tournament. Senegal's AFCON championship squad is loaded with Premier League and Ligue 1 quality; this is not a gimme for Les Bleus. Norway bring Erling Haaland — arguably the world's best striker — and represent a genuine threat to both France and Senegal. France vs. Norway (June 26) at Gillette Stadium could be the tournament's first Haaland vs. Mbappé showdown. Iraq are the group's underdogs but have competitive form from recent Asian Cup campaigns.

Fri, Jun 26Iraq vs. Senegal3:00 PMBMO Field, Toronto

Watch for: Senegal vs. France (June 16) at MetLife is a cultural moment as much as a sporting one. France vs. Norway (June 26) at Gillette could be a direct group leadership battle between two of Europe's elite programs — Erling Haaland on the biggest stage of his international career.

Group J — Algeria, Argentina, Jordan, Austria

The story: Argentina enter as defending World Cup champions — the first time they've had that status since back-to-back titles in 1978 and 1986. The question isn't whether they advance; it's what shape they're in and which bracket position they earn heading into the knockouts. Algeria, with their passionate fanbase and talented squad built around European-based players, are the group's most motivated opponent. Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City will feel like an away game for Argentina when Algeria's support shows up. Austria have developed significantly in recent years with a new generation of Bundesliga-quality players. Jordan are the group's newcomers, qualifying through Asia's increasingly competitive pathway.

The simultaneous final day (June 28) across Kansas City and Dallas will have bracket-defining implications.

Group K — Congo DR, Portugal, Colombia, Uzbekistan

The story: Portugal — perpetual contenders, rarely champions — carry the weight of unfulfilled major tournament expectations into 2026. Their squad has Champions League quality from keeper to striker and they should comfortably top Group K. Colombia are the group's most serious challenge: stylish, technical, physical, and capable of the kind of moments that swing tournaments. Congo DR (Democratic Republic of the Congo) are one of Africa's most populous and passionate footballing nations qualifying for a major tournament in a generation — their support will be enormous. Uzbekistan's Central Asian qualifier is one of football's most compelling recent underdog stories.

Group L — Croatia, England, Panama, Ghana

The story: England — still seeking their first major international trophy since 1966 — open against Croatia in a direct rematch of the 2018 World Cup semifinal, the match where Croatia broke English hearts in extra time. England are the stronger side in 2026, but Croatia have consistently overachieved at major tournaments for a generation and will not be intimidated. England's opening night at AT&T Stadium in Dallas will be one of the group stage's biggest atmospheres. Ghana, with their bright attacking generation, are the group's most dangerous third team and a legitimate dark horse for deep progression. Panama are CONCACAF's proud qualifiers, fighting for every point.

When does the group stage end?

The group stage ends Saturday, June 27, 2026. All final matchday games within each group kick off simultaneously to ensure fairness — teams cannot know the result they need before their own game begins.
